Funky Furniture

In the back of my mind I have had a vision. A vision of some small funky furniture that I can take with me to photo shoots. Funky used furniture is not something that you come by very often in Alaska. We have a lot of broken, cheaply made furniture that doesn't add much to a photo. But I have had high hopes of finding something at an estate sale or thrift store. I have stopped at half a dozen garage sales this summer, hoping that it would be the one that they were getting rid of something fun. And every couple of weeks I stop by the Salvation Army, but always come away empty handed.

But today, my friends... TODAY I found my funky furniture. Don't you just love them?! I can't wait to clean them up and use them in my photography. I envision sweet babies, chubby toddlers, stylish seniors, and perhaps a bride or two with my funky furniture. I am sure there will be more to add to my collection. So if you come across some terrific funky furniture, let me know. I am still looking.

A Little Taste of Alaska

This blog is for all of my friends that have once known the crisp air of August that sweeps down the mountains to signal the hunt. The hunt for blueberries ... the treasure. So for those of you who can't be here this year, this is for you.

My fellow blueberry hunter and I drove up Archangel road for you. We hiked back to the cabin where we began the search. It wasn't long before we found the deep purple treasures that we sot. We stood in the cooling air of evening tickling the branches of each bush. I stopped a couple of times just to stand and look at the amazing place I get to live. Breathing deeply of the cooling autumn air and the smells of Alaska. It was a good place to spend an evening.

Unfortunately we ran out of daylight before we ran out of berries. As we hiked back to the car I kept thinking of you. I kept thinking about how I would love to box you up a little care package filled with my purple treasures--including the sticks and leaves because it is more authentic and I don't like cleaning berries- and send it so that it arrives on your doorstep tomorrow morning. Then you can make blueberry pancakes or blueberries muffins or put them in your cereal or just eat them one at a time and think of the cool mountain air that has been calling you.

I picked these just for you...

Peggy and Ahpa Engagement

What a fun and fast engagement shoot. We were competing with the coastal winds at McHugh Creek and imminent rain that evening. The rain did grant us a few minutes to dodge out from under the trees to get some of the gorgeous views of the Cook Inlet. It ended up being a fantastic shoot because my awesome bride and groom, Peggy and Ahpa, were up for the challenge. Thanks for being willing to brave the weather, Peggy and Ahpa!

Here are some favorites from the shoot. Click here for the entire slideshow.

Sarah's Senior Portraits

One of the last hot, beautiful evenings of summer and I got to spend it with Sarah! We had a blast dodging blueberry pickers in Hatcher's Pass and wading through a gorgeous field in the evening light. She even brought a friend along to laughed with us. Sarah, I love your laugh! You are beautiful inside and out! Thanks for the fun evening, girls!

Senior Portrait Session Special

The response to Heidi's Senior Portraits that I posted earlier this week has been awesome. Thanks to Heidi for being so beautiful on the inside and out. Our session was so much fun I hope I fill my schedule with seniors over the next few months!

Tonight I updated my website with my Senior Portrait Special for the fall. So if you know of any graduating high school seniors, pass the word to go to my website (www.carrielambing.com) and check it out.

Here is another photo of Heidi because every post is better with a photo... and well, this one just makes me happy but can't tell you exactly why.

Jennifer and Alan's Wedding

A hand-built log gazebo in the corner of the yard spoke volumes of the love of Jennifer's family in preparation for this day. The small sweet wedding was atop a hill surrounded by the magnificent Alaskan mountains and by the crowd of friends and family. Jennifer was bursting with smiles as Alan stood proudly by his bride. The sun even made a short appearance in time for some photos before the ceremony.

Many thanks to Jennifer and Alan for letting me be a part of your fun day!

Here are a few of my favorite shots of the day.

Heidi's Senior Portraits

I have been looking forward to this shoot since April when I learned that I would get to shoot Heidi's senior portraits. To begin with, I love doing senior portraits. Can't help it, I love teenagers. I think they must be addicting or something. Then the shoot got even better when her mom asked if we could do the photo session in Clam Gulch at their family's salmon fishing set net site. Each summer the entire family camps on the Alaskan beach for the summer to fish the coastal waters for salmon. The place is not only beautiful, but filled with a lifetime of memories for their family. I felt especially honored to get to hang out and camp overnight with them.

And what a memorable shoot it was! We caught a few fun shots as the sun was was going down. Then the next morning, after she has gone out in the boat to set nets, we had some more time to shoot before I joined them in the boats to pick fish out of the nets at low tide. What an adventure!

Thanks, Doners, for the yummy dinner, the fishing adventure and the fun on the beach!
